Oh, hi there. How about a free 3-song download package in anticipation of “Wisdom Teeth”, my debut MPSO album! (coming January 2012 to an internet near you…) http://mpso.bandcamp.com/album/can-i-convince-you-reckoner-video-games

The first song is the album version of “Can I Convince You.” (you may have heard an earlier version on this blog a while back). The other 2 songs are cover songs which will not be on Wisdom Teeth. The first is a little ditty originally by a band called Radiohead. The second is my rendition of one of 2011’s most covered songs, Video Games by Lana Del Rey. (my version is, of course, far superior to any of the other attempts…)

Please download this 3-song package for free over at my bandcamp page. Here is a link: http://mpso.bandcamp.com/album/can-i-convince-you-reckoner-video-games

Hope you are having an excellent start to 2012. And please look out for the release of Wisdom Teeth later this month!

best,

Daniel

Well here’s the finished recording of my “Video Games” cover. Yeah, that one I started like 3 months ago. It’s unmastered so crank that, Soulja Boy.

Female vocals in the chorus courtesy of my super-talented friend, Eden Richmond.

Once it’s good and mastered it will become the B-Side to my soon-to-be-released-on-the-internet 2-song single bundle. The A-side is a new song called “Everything and Always.”

Enjoy.

EDIT EDIT: I uploaded the wrong mix. Here’s the newer one.

EDIT: HERE’S AN UPDATED VERSION INCLUDING VOCALS! I still am not completely finished and will be adding some female vocals in the chorus. Once it’s fully done I’ll make it available as a free download, but in the meantime have a listen to the nearly complete version above!

So I keep hearing Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games,” and each time I hear it I can’t help but marvel at just how well written a song it is. I started thinking it would be really fun to play with the song a bit and rework it in a completely different arrangement.

So here’s what I came up with last night. I didn’t really have any blueprint and I wasn’t really sure which precise direction I would take it in right away. At first I started simply strumming it on a guitar and began imagining a very guitar-layered shimmery rock king of thing. Before I knew it tho, once I laid out some keyboard tracks of horn sounds and strings, it strangely revealed itself as nearly a full on classical piece. It started heading in a direction closer to Henryk Gorecki or Arvo Part than my original guitar-driven idea.

So here’s the first bunch of layers of come up with. Right now it’s essentially a horn and string driven instrumental.

I’m just about to add some guitar and vocals. I’ll upload the results of that soon!

In the mean time, here’s the preview!
